Colin held the title of Junior National Champion in Archery from 1980 to 1983. In 1983 he represented Singapore as a National Sportsman in an overseas meet, and from then participated in many events that saw him travel to and compete in countries such as Thailand, Malaysia, China, and India. One of the highlights of this era saw him placing 5th in a Thailand International Archery Competition that drew participants from the South East Asia region.

Aside from more serious training, between 1987 and 1990 Colin organized and led all training sessions for the local club 'Archery Club of Singapore'. He was in charge of a team of 5 other instructors and churned through groups of thirty participants that attended 6 week training courses.

In 1991, Colin officially retired as a National Representative and assumed responsibilities of Assistant National Coach, taking control of the National Ladies Archery Team. This role saw him manage and control all aspects of training for both 'A' and 'B' class teams. He accompanied these teams to competitions in Japan and India.

Also in 1991, he was one of ten National Representatives picked to represent Singapore in Jeunesse du Monde, a French-sponsored Olympic goodwill event held in the South of France.

Aside from Archery, Colin pursued the martial arts with equal vigour, and was part of the winning team in the 1987 All Singapore Ninjado competition, the year in which he earned his black belt. He continued his training whilst being an Assistant Instructor at a local club until he left for the United States at the end of 1991. There he expanded his involvement in the martial arts with training in both American Karate and Aikido, and was involved in assisting with the Physical Education program at his US College. It was during this time when he started research into Women's Self Defence, a program in which he developed and has been delivering for more than ten years.

In 2000, Colin started a small martial arts group in Australia called Hikaru Ryu Ninjado. It took him three years to fine tune his training system, and he produced a unique system based off the various Japanese martial arts he had been exposed to in the past twenty years. January 2003 saw him change the name of his school to Hikaru Ryu Gendai Budo; recognizing specific martial tradition, and calling his art 'Bujutsu'.

In 2003, Colin was also awarded a teaching certificate by Shodai Bryan Robbins, from Yokage Aikijujutsu and the American Karate and Taekwondo Federation. This great honour was accompanied by a message from Shodai Robbins that read:

I can't think of many people that I have come into contact with in over 30 years as a martial artist that I would feel comfortable with giving them this honor; you have my complete confidence that you will use this instrument to enhance your art and promote outstanding students!!

Professionally, Colin holds a US business degree with Honors in Organization Behavior. Since 1994, Colin has been deeply involved with Internet business development starting with a pioneering Electronic Commerce honors project spearheaded by his univeristy’s MIS Chairperson. Colin moved back to South East Asia in 1995 and has done business-oriented work on diverse Internet-related assignments. Projects include but are not limited to Internet training, online Insurance Broking, search engine optimization, establishing video streaming broadband services, electronic logistic solutions, referral marketing integrated with electronic commerce, wireless internet ordering devices, and was web master for a number of portals in Singapore. Colin is currently pursuing a Master's of Business and Technology degree with the University of New South Wales.

A side note: As part of his National Service, Colin trained as a combat medical orderly and served at the RSAF Aeromedical Centre. There he was in charge of the Physical Performance Laboratory which conducted cardiovascular stress tests and bodyfat measurements. Colin wrote the Standard Operating Procedure for bodyfat measurement then used in the Airforce. Colin has had to use his medical training twice in real life, and remains CPR certified to this present day.
